I don't really have to say how relieved I am about this do I?

If the new stadium is approved by Islington council on Monday (and one wonders whether or not the club have had a tip-off considering the timing of this) then it's onwards and upwards.

This from the club:

Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that manager Arsène Wenger has signed a four year extension to his current contract, ensuring that he will remain in charge of the Gunners until 2005, when the Club hopes to relocate to a new stadium at Ashburton Grove, Islington.

Mr Wenger, who is now in his sixth season with Arsenal, has been at the Club since September 28th 1996, in which time he has led Arsenal to the 'Double' in 1998, The UEFA Cup Final in 2000 and The F.A. Cup Final in 2001.

In each of Arsène's four full seasons at Highbury, the Club has qualified for the UEFA Champions League, Europe's premier club competition.

During his time with the Gunners, Arsène has revolutionised the Club. He has been responsible for the state-of-the-art training centre at London Colney and through his expertise has developed many world class players, taking Arsenal successfully into the 21st century.

Before arriving at Highbury, Arsène was manager at Grampus Eight Nagoya in Japan and French clubs AS Monaco and Nancy. He was also assistant manager with Cannes and in charge of the youth section of his home town club, Strasbourg.

Arsène's honours in the game outside of Arsenal include the French League Championship in 1998 and the French National Cup in 1991 with Monaco; and The Emperor's Cup and The Japanese Super Cup with Grampus Eight Nagoya in 1996.
